You can include several featured books in the reading center tub to encourage students to self-select books when they visit that center. Two students go to the listening center each morning, and two get to paint at the art center.

In this activity, students will match number cards to subitizing pictures. I love having my students write the books themselves, and usually "translate" under their words.

Here are some samples from my Fall Words file. Some days I give them a topic or a sentence stem, some days I let them free write, whatever their little hearts desire. On one side, have them identify a key idea or concept they learned that day.

They love using the little magnetic letters to match letters and find beginning sounds. The color words can be found on my color posters hanging in my room or even in my thematic words binder for the kids to use if needed.

If not, ask students to print out photographs in advance and write the caption on the paper.
